This is such a versatile bracelet. I must point out how comfortable it is. Not only is the design attractive but it is practical. I am not sure you are able to see the curve of each of the links but they lay against the skin nicely. The insets are real leather. bergère's ad's called this line "Thoroughbred fashion in leather jewelry." They also made a leather faux ostrich in this same line (which I also have in stock). I have not been able to verify whether this was intended to be a faux crocidile or lizard. Either way it is a very attractive and interesting bracelet. This was produced during the early 1950's, judging by the magazine ads. As you see in these photos bergère introduced a very similar line a few years later. They changed the design a bit by using insets which imitated leopard fur.

The bracelet is in good shape with a bit of gold loss and signs of wear. The leather insets are glued and appear to be well seated. I would think that this would really be cute with a matching vintage bag of similar imitation (or real) lizard or crocidile. ID-640

Bracelet - approximately 7.5 inches in length.

bergère Jewelry History —

A bit of history on bergère jewelry—I seem to find more of the metal pieces of bergère. They are very well made with great sophistication. I do have past sales of bergère rhinestone jewelry which are equally well made and beautiful. Something I found interesting personally is the type of ads they ran at times when other costume jewelry companies were running elaborate ads some of bergère's ads seemed to be very low budget. Possibly they wanted to emphasize that they were selling quality jewelry, not magazine ads. In other words, "Sell the steak not the sizzle." bergère jewelry was in operation from the 1946 through 1979. Produced by L. Erbert & Pohls Inc., bergère is known for being both statement pieces and high in quality. The jewelry was sold in high-end department stores including Marshall Fields, Lord & Taylor, and Nordstrom.
